The BID began its Clean Campaign on October 1st, partnering
with the Washington-based Gospel Rescue Ministries’ “Ready
to Work” program to provide daily street and sidewalk cleaning services
seven days a week. NoMa’s clean team is canvassing the area twice
a day from 7 AM to 3 PM removing all litter, debris and weeds. Congresswoman
Norton, Councilmember Thomas and others attended the Clean Campaign launch
and applauded the efforts of the BID and the Ready to Work team.
Ready to Work is a transitional job program that provides housing, health
care, drug treatment, job training and employment for formerly homeless
men and women. Ready to Work has a track record of success in other neighborhoods;
they started at the Capitol Hill BID in 2003 and are now employed as the
cleaning contractor for four BIDs. The NoMa crew already has received
rave reviews from community members and property owners alike.
