End your weekend with friends, a cold drink, D.C. sunset, and the cool Brazilian sounds of Bossa Nova featuring world-renowned Bossa Nova singer Elin.
Currently based in Washington, DC, Elin spent eleven years on the New York City jazz scene, where she released her debut album, Lazy Afternoon, to critical acclaim, winning multiple songwriting awards and selling out Jazz at Lincoln Center twice. She also performed regularly at top jazz venues like the Blue Note, Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, Joe’s Pub, Iridium, and Smoke. Elin has toured extensively and opened for Chaka Khan, George Benson, and Nancy Wilson at the Miami Jazz in the Gardens Festival in 2008. She also spent three months singing at the “Lost in Translation” hotel in Tokyo, Japan in 2010. She is a regular collaborator with EDM giants, Thievery Corporation — with whom she performed at the Kennedy Center in May of 2017 and co-wrote three songs with on their Brazilian-inspired album, “Saudade.”
Bossa nova is a style of Brazilian music, which was developed and popularized in the 1950s and 1960s and is today one of the best-known Brazilian music styles abroad. The phrase bossa nova means literally “new trend” or “new wave” A lyrical fusion of samba and jazz, bossa nova acquired a large following in the 1960s, initially among young musicians and college students.
