Washington Business Journal: Edens, others on Union Market-area buying spree. Are chains in the future?

Union Market owner Edens is quietly accumulating warehouse property on the block opposite the popular Northeast D.C. retail destination, where renderings for a proposed Union Market redevelopment show a series of chain clothing and food stores.

Based on public records, it appears Edens has spent at least $10 million, and possibly as much as $20 million, to acquire more than half of the block of Fifth Street Northeast, on the side opposite Union Market, between Morse Street and Neal Place.
